What is NSSA?

NSSA is Zimbabwe's national social security authority.

It is the national organisation tasked with promoting occupational safety and health as well as protecting individuals in situations or conditions whereby their livelihoods are threatened.

Such situations include:

• Sickness

• work injuries

• old age

• invalidity

• retirement

• death

NSSA also provides trainings, rehabilitation services for the insured and a factory inspectorate.

Who should register?

When one becomes an employer, they are required by law to register with NSSA within 30 days of hiring an employee/s.

How to register with NSSA

The registration process is fairly simple. You will be required to fill in the following forms:

1. Form P2- This contains the Employer's details, related company details, bankers details, contribution details and the owner/director or responsible person.

2. Form P3- This contains the employee's details, occupation details, contact details, spouse, children and other dependents’ details and fingerprints. NB- The Form P2 and the Form P3 can be obtained from your nearest NSSA office or you can download them on the NSSA website.

3. CR14 Form

4. Certificate of incorporation

5. ID card copies for the directors

After you have filled in the forms, submit them to your nearest NSSA office.

Once your application has been processed, you will be notified and issued with a Social security number(SSR) as well as a BP number. These numbers will be used in all your company’s communications with NSSA.

Each employee will be issued with a Social security card and an SSN number. This number is used throughout the employee's life and does not change regardless of whether they change employers.

The employee contributes 3,5% of their salary and the employer matches that, making the total contribution equal to 7% of the employee's salary. Upon completion of the registration process orientation will be done to inform the employer about their obligations, procedures and calculation methods.

NB- as an employer, you are obliged to inform NSSA if there is a change in any of the details provided on the above forms. That means notifying NSSA when an employee adds on a new dependent, succumbs to death or their employment is terminated.
